| The
minor chameleon (Furcifer minor) of Madagascar has a rather
restricted range on the central plateau south of the capital,
Antananarivo. Unlike most chameleons, the six-inch female of
this species is the more colorful sex, sporting bright yellows,
greens and magentas, while the male, which is about half again
as long, is cloaked in browns and oranges, but is equipped with
a masculine bifurcular appendage on the end of his snout. Among
the leaf litter below are a harlequin mantella (Mantella madagascariensis)
and a tire-track millipede (order Polydesmoidea). |
